the mouldering mounds of mirth

Let me introduce you to my favourite comic, ‘Red Meat’.

This demented and often disturbing strip was created in ’89 by underground icon Max Cannon, originally featuring in the University of Arizona’s student newspaper, the ‘Arizona Daily Wildcat’.  Since then, it has been syndicated, can be found in over 75 alternative weeklies, and enjoys a large cult following.

Check it out at www.redmeat.com.

On Valentine’s Day alone, a staggering 1200 people read my Mike Routliffe article in Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary art, making it the magazine’s top-read article worldwide.

Thanks, guys!  I know you made a large chunk of the numbers.  Again, if you haven’t read it, please feel free to do so.

Soundcheck Vancouver

Posted in Uncategorized on February 8, 2008 by dkpetley

Soundcheck Vancouver is a contract project I’ve been working on for a real estate client of Foliovision, a European-based global marketing and design firm.  Essentially, it’s a Vancouver live music guide divided by genre.  The first installment, ‘LOUD LOUDWEST — Where Rock Lives’, has been published.  Check it out at

Look for part two, ‘SAX IN THE CITY — All That Jazz’, coming soon.

The Devil’s Apple

Coming, soon, my Whitehot Magazine article/interview with local multi-media artist/visionary Michael Routliffe, featuring images by Big Tiny Smalls.

Mike’s exhibit, ‘The Devil’s Apple’ (January 31st-February 6th, Community Arts Council of Greater Victoria) is a combination of feature film, vignette and photo manipulation.  My conversation with him was both stimulating and eye-opening — well worth the read.

Look for it next week.

Cheers,

D.

Mr.Hefner, meet Whitehot…

Check out the latest article from Whitehot Magazine of Contemporary Art featuring celebrated pinup artist Olivia Beren, as told in words by prolific writer and Playboy Bunny, Juliette Frette.  http://www.whitehotmagazine.com/whitehot_articles.cfm?id=1137

In fact, Hugh Hefner’s camp contacted us for permission to include the piece in his scrapbook.  No problem, Hef!

ADDENDUM:

Hef’s life-long scrapbooking hobbie is a massive project made easier with the support and administration of his lovely girlfriend, Holly Madison.

Thanks for all you do, Holly!
